Shifting Your 2025
Let's strengthen our collective community this year.
Initially, I had a different opening for this first newsletter of 2025. Sadly, my heart goes out to those in LA and surrounding regions affected by the fires. Please keep friends, family, and those fighting the fires in mind as people seek support to get their lives back. If you are able to help those affected by the fires, visit this page for ideas. And, if you know of impacted people, make sure they are aware of these resources for help.
I always say, “preparation is self care.” One way to kickoff your self care is by creating or revisiting your caregiving support network or community. This edition of Care Fully seeks to expand your caregiving supports by amplifying the power of community and resources in 2025. You’ll notice an introduction of one advocacy organization, followed by a list of four options you can include in your caregiving toolbox.
😇 Shining A Light on Mom’s First
Reshma Saujani, a prominent activist and the visionary founder of Girls Who Code, leads Mom’s First. This dedicated advocacy organization is committed to driving meaningful change for mothers in the workforce. Their focus is on the unique challenges faced by working moms. Think about the sandwich generation caring for children and parents as an example. Mom’s First looks to transform workplaces, communities, and our culture to prioritize the needs of Mothers (and frankly all parents).
Sounds great, what has Mom’s First done?
Mom’s First collaborated with McKinsey Consulting on an in-depth report highlighting the business case for companies to provide child care benefits. This movement is significant for those juggling care for their children and aging parents.
In addition to the report, the organization has also taken a proactive step by launching the National Business Coalition for Child Care.
Mom’s First is the group that created PaidLeave.AI, a tool to help people learn about paid leave in their state. If your state doesn't have Paid Leave, the website provides a letter you can send to your state representative to share why this issue matters to you.
How does this help you?
Mom’s First provides resources that lead to action. If you’re looking for:
Tools and research to support the child care movement in your workplace, bookmark Mom’s First and sign up for their emails
A resource explaining PaidLeave in your state and why every state should have it, visit PaidLeave.AI
An organization to support, please consider Mom’s First.
🧐 Before getting to more resources, would you mind taking a quick poll to let me know what’s on your mind?
What topic is top of mind for you? I'll see if I can address it in an upcoming newsletter. |
📰 Update!!
Last month, I teased the new look and feel of this newsletter with a small group. It’s official!

I’ve made the move to Beehiiv giving me access to interactive elements, links to a newsletter archive, and more. Check it out!
👍 Must have resources for caregivers
I mentioned expanding your caregiver circle and resources. Start by exploring the ideas below. Let me know if you have any experience reaching out to these resources, or have questions.
If you want to see what your state or city offers caregivers, start with Area Agencies on Aging. These agencies are funded by states to address the needs and concerns of all older persons. Because these are regional agencies, they might go by different names. Their main goal is to help caregivers support older adults through services such as home-delivered meals, homemakers, etc.
You might hear me continue to reiterate how important taking time for yourself as a caregiver is. Respite Care is one way you can tap into a resource that might give you a few hours to care for yourself. It might not work for everyone, but it is an option for you. Add it to your toolbox as a just in case.
If you are looking for more care, consider looking into companion care organizations. I’ve used Visiting Angels in the past. Seniors Helping Seniors is another organization. I’d encourage you to explore these organizations as they can supplement the care you provide your loved one.
