Nine months into things . . .

Hi!
I’m Erna, the author of Care Fully.
My caregiver journey started over 20 years ago, when I was 21 years old. As a newly minted college graduate, my life was just beginning. I had no idea how to deal with the ups, downs, and in-betweens of caregiving for my Mother.
Care Fully is a play on words. The questions I am asked and the questions I still have drive each issue of this newsletter. We “care fully” by balancing our needs as a caregivers with those we provide care for. My goal is to offer up experiences and information to support your caregiving needs.

BEFORE WE GET INTO THINGS . . .
We are nine months into 2025! Where did the time go? Also, at the same time, why does it feel like so much more time has passed. Alas. School is in swing. Football is starting and pumpkin lattes (for those who partake) are in full effect. This month also brings attention to Emergency Preparedness, Ovarian Cancer Awareness and Childhood Cancer Awareness. You’ll see related resources in this issue’s links of note.
POTENTIAL SUPPORTS TO OFFSET CAREGIVER STRAIN AND DRAIN
What financial supports do caregivers want?
Caregivers sacrifice a great deal on the professional and personal front. When caregivers were asked what could help them financially,
69% of respondents would find an income tax credit helpful.
68% consider caregiver payment programs helpful.
55% view partially paid leaves of absence helpful.
Caregivers also shared perspectives on supportive programs and services. Respite services, was requested by 39% of caregivers.

My Take:
The complexities across the caregiving continuum are numerous. Challenges aren’t specific to one income group, scenario, or type of caregiver. This means a variety of solutions are necessary. Supports may present as state or federal policy, people, financial, educational, or other types of resources. Have you thought about what would make a difference in your journey? Please reply to this newsletter and let me know.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
Social Security here today and maybe tomorrow?
The social security landscape seems to shift with each passing year. As of today, the Social Security Trust is fully funded through 2033. What does this mean for your loved one or care recipient? What does it mean for you?

My Take:
Both of these articles are from Fidelity. I find the information they provide is easy to read and understand (for the most part). The discussions around social security are good to have with your loved ones and as you think through your own retirement plans.
